(12:35 p.m. EDT) — AmaWaterways has unveiled the first details and renderings of AmaRudi, its second double-width river ship launching on the Danube River in 2027.
Named after co-founder and Chairman Rudi Schreiner, AmaRudi will join AmaMagna as one of the largest river cruise ships in Europe.
"AmaMagna changed what travelers believed was possible on a river cruise ship," said Schreiner, co-founder and Chairman of AmaWaterways. "We knew there would be a right time to revisit that concept, and with river cruising continuing to grow, that time is now. More travelers are making the transition from ocean cruising to rivers, and many are looking for a sense of space and choice.
"AmaMagna was one of the most rewarding projects of my career, so having this new ship carry my name makes it especially meaningful. I see it as part of the legacy we have built together over more than two decades of river cruising."
Accommodating up to 196 guests in 98 staterooms and suites, the new vessel offers more personal space, spacious wellness amenities and public spaces inspired by the destinations along the Danube River.
Dining venues aboard AmaRudi include the Journey's Restaurant, The Chef's Table, and Rudi's Wine Bar, inspired by Schreiner's passion for wine and European culture. For quick bites, a built-in Deck Club barbecue will be available on the Sun Deck.
In terms of entertainment, AmaRudi will debut a new entertainment concept created exclusively for the ship, featuring a cinema, karaoke, billiards and a jukebox.
According to the company, sustainability will also play a central role in AmaRudi's design and operation. The vessel will feature Stage V engines, solar panels, shore power connectivity, spud poles and lightweight construction materials designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, said: "AmaRudi reflects our confidence in the future of river cruising and our continued commitment to innovation. From the moment AmaMagna launched, travelers and travel advisors have been asking if we would ever build another ship like her.
"With AmaRudi, we're taking that concept even further. There is a tremendous opportunity to continue pushing the boundaries of what a river cruise ship can be while preserving the exceptional service and intimate experience that have defined our company for more than two decades."
AmaRudi is scheduled to enter service in spring 2027, operating the line's popular Danube itineraries. Additional details about accommodations, onboard experiences and booking will be announced at a later date.
