Dr. Sian Prior Questions Arctic Navigation Due to Black Carbon Emissions
Dr. Sian Prior, lead advisor for the Clean Arctic Alliance, criticized the attempt by the vessel Dubai Tower to cross the Northern Sea Route and PanStar's purchase of a ship for a similar journey. Prior warned about black carbon emissions accelerating Arctic ice melt, which is currently at its eighth lowest level on record. She noted that LNG is not a suitable alternative fuel due to methane emissions and called for support for a proposal on polar fuels at the IMO.
