Draft restrictions persist in the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, part of the navigation route of the transnational North Sea Port ( Netherlands-Belgium). This situation is due to low water levels related to drought and began to be recorded on July 7 of the current year.
According to the latest update provided by North Sea Port on its website, it was reported that "we anticipate that maritime accessibility will remain limited for the time being. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your account manager. We will take your feedback into account to plan the nautical chain as optimally as possible, considering the current restrictions. Thank you in advance for your understanding in this crisis situation."
Regarding the maneuvers carried out to alleviate this situation, it was communicated that "the pumps are ready to pump water from the Scheldt into the canal, and the water level appears to be stabilizing, partly due to the current restrictions and weather conditions."
Regarding the draft restriction, it was reported that it remains at 12.25 meters. It was also reported that the West Lock Terneuzen sea lock will remain closed until further notice.
