The growth of Ecuadorian foreign trade drives the need to expand Guayaquil's port infrastructure to accommodate larger vessels. Contecon reports a 30% growth in container movement, especially on trade routes with China.
Currently, Contecon's pier draft is between 10.5 and 13.5 meters, while there is a requirement to receive Post-Panamax and Neo-Panamax vessels. The increase in cargo volume demands greater depths in the access channels and adaptations to the piers.
The deepening and maintenance of the access channel are part of the projects to support the growth of Guayaquil's port system. These improvements aim to strengthen operational capacity and meet the new demands of foreign trade.
