Ecuador Advances in Legal Reforms to Strengthen Maritime and Fluvial Security

The Biodiversity and Natural Resources Commission of the National Assembly is analyzing reforms to the Comprehensive Organic Penal Code (COIP) and the Organic Law on Navigation, Security Management, and Maritime and Fluvial Protection. The initiatives seek to strengthen the prevention and sanction of crimes in seas, rivers, and aquatic spaces, addressing boat thefts, violence against fishermen, and the formalization of artisanal fishing.
