The National Society of Industries (SNI) announced that this Tuesday, August 25, the forum "El Niño Phenomenon: Prevention, Infrastructure, and Defense of Regional Production" will take place, bringing together leaders from the private and public sectors, and the United States embassy to coordinate actions against this climatic phenomenon.
Representatives from the main business guilds, ProInversión, Cofide, the Embassy of the United States, and the Private Command against the El Niño Phenomenon, among other institutions and relevant actors, will participate.
The objective is to promote a public-private agenda that allows for defining actions and strategies aimed at preparing Piura to face the El Niño Phenomenon (FEN), and contributing to reducing its impacts on the population, infrastructure, and productive activity.
The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Universidad Tecnológica del Perú (UTP) campus in Piura and will feature the president of the SNI, Felipe James; the ambassador of the United States of America, Bernardo Navarro; and the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation and president of the National Commission for Risk Management of the El Niño Phenomenon, Marco Vinelli, as participants in the inaugural act.
The agenda will include a space dedicated to the prevention and attention of emergencies, as well as the necessary actions to keep regional production operational, with the participation of the Minister of Production, Juan Carlos Requejo; the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia; and the Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, Maritza Canales.
In this space, the following will participate as panelists: the president of the Association of Exporters (Adex), César Tello Ramírez; the president of the Automotive Association of Peru (AAP), Karsten Kunckel; the president of the Association of Agrarian Producers' Guilds of Peru (AGAP), Gabriel Amaro; and the first vice president of the Lima Chamber of Commerce, Sandro Stapleton, who will address the challenges of the productive sector in the face of the eventual impacts of the FEN.
Infrastructure and investments will also occupy a central place on the agenda. The executive president of ProInversión, Luis del Carpio, will present on the projects necessary to strengthen the productive capacity of the Piura region in the face of the FEN.
Subsequently, a panel will be held, made up of the Senator of the Republic for the Piura region, Karla Schaefer; the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Piura, Javier Bereche; the president of the SNI's Fishing and Aquaculture Committee, Gerardo Carrera; and the president of the Financial Development Corporation (Cofide), Jorge Velarde.
One of the central moments of the meeting will be the "The Role of the Private Sector" space, which will feature Carlos Neuhaus, leader of the Private Command against the El Niño Phenomenon, as a speaker.
This space will allow for sharing experiences and capacities of the private sector, in order to achieve articulated work between companies, guilds, and authorities.
The panel will include the participation of the executive director of Hombro a Hombro, Juan Manuel Arribas; the general manager of Eternit, Carlos Nicolini; the representative of the Piura Farmers Association, Armando Rivera; the president of Perucámaras, Óscar Zapata; and the president of the National Council of SENATI, José Naranjo.
Within the framework of the event, the "Pact for the Infrastructure and Productive Development of Piura" will also be signed, an initiative that seeks to promote regional development articulated with the growth and investment opportunities offered by the country.
Likewise, with the purpose of directly understanding the effects and risks of natural phenomena, representatives of the business guilds will visit various productive activities in the Piura region.
