The Environmental Assessment Service (SEA) recommended approving the project "Integral project for the production and export of green ammonia – HNH Energy", an initiative that includes the development of energy and port infrastructure in the Magallanes Region.
The recommendation is associated with the environmental assessment file presented by ASOE Chile Diez SpA, a firm that has proposed an investment of 11 million dollars to carry out this energy-port initiative.
The initiative considers an integrated chain for the production of green ammonia from hydrogen produced through electrolysis, using renewable energy. The project also includes facilities for the storage and subsequent export of the product, including port infrastructure.
The environmental assessment process formally began in 2024, and during its processing, the SEA received and analyzed the technical background provided by the owner, in addition to the pronouncements of the public bodies that participated in the evaluation.
The favorable recommendation constituted a new milestone for one of the largest-scale projects linked to the development of the hydrogen industry and its derivatives in Magallanes, particularly due to its component of maritime production and export of green ammonia.
The HNH Energy project is mainly located in the commune of San Gregorio, in the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica.
It should be noted that the initiative is located in the Bahía Gregorio sector, approximately 120 kilometers northeast of Punta Arenas, impacting that locality, as well as Punta Arenas and Laguna Blanca.
The project must now continue with the corresponding administrative stages within the Environmental Impact Assessment System before obtaining its definitive environmental authorization.
