Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) is currently servicing one of the largest container ships to arrive at the Port of Valparaíso at Berth No. 3. The vessel, associated with Evergreen and registered under the flag of Panama, arrived from the port facility of Callao, Peru.
The milestone was achieved with the docking of the Tampa Triumph, the largest vessel among the ten units that the Taiwanese shipping company deploys in the WSA service operating in Valparaíso.
The vessel, belonging to the Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV) category, is 365.9 meters long, 51.2 meters wide, has a maximum draft of 15.5 meters, a capacity to mobilize 13,656 TEU, and is 9 years old.
In this context, Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso (EPV) specified that the Tampa Triumph is "the fourth vessel of these characteristics to call at the Port of Valparaíso. Previously, the MSC Capella, 366 meters long and with a capacity of 13,000 TEU; the MSC Virgo, 366 meters long and up to 15,000 TEU, the largest cargo capacity recorded at the terminal; and the Houston Express, the longest vessel in the port's history at 368.42 meters long and with a capacity of 13,500 TEU, had done so."
For his part, Franco Gandolfo, general manager of EPV, highlighted that "the reception of the Tampa Triumph confirms the operational capacity of Puerto Valparaíso to efficiently handle the largest vessels currently sailing maritime routes. Vessels of these dimensions demand high standards of coordination and infrastructure, and this operation demonstrates that Valparaíso is up to these challenges."
"It is worth noting that currently, Puerto Valparaíso can only attend to one vessel of these dimensions at a time. However, with the port expansion project being carried out by Puerto Valparaíso, it will be possible to attend up to three such vessels simultaneously, thereby increasing our current reception capacity and consolidating Valparaíso as a port prepared for the foreign trade of the future," he added.
At TPS, the operation of the Tampa Triumph involves the movement of 2,000 containers between loading and unloading tasks, operations that will extend over four shifts. According to the shipping company's planning, departure is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, August 19.
After concluding its operations in Valparaíso and leaving Chilean waters, the container ship will begin its trans-Pacific return journey to Asia within Evergreen's global service, with its arrival in Hong Kong estimated for September 14.
