The Minister of Public Works and Communications of the Dominican Republic, Eduardo Estrella, swore in the new executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), Alejandro Campos.
Additionally, Julia Muñíz Suberví was also appointed as president of Apordom's Board of Directors, the institution's highest body, composed of representatives from the Executive Branch and the private sector, including representatives from the Association of Shipowners of the Dominican Republic, the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo, and the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the entity's facilities, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors and special guests.
Estrella pointed out that since 2020, Apordom's results have spoken for themselves and that he trusts in the management of Campos and Suberví for its continuity.
"President Abinader has trusted you for a reason, both for the public and private sectors. You have a double responsibility for what Apordom represents in international trade as well as for tourism, and you can count on the central government to support you," indicated the Minister of Public Works and Communications.
For his part, Campos, once sworn in, expressed his commitment to continue the roadmap. Muñíz Suberví, for her part, highlighted that her work will be focused on strengthening public-private partnerships and honoring the commitment to maintain the synergy between the Executive Directorate and the Board of Directors.
"The process of expansion and modernization of its port infrastructure is a path we started six years ago, and we will continue to navigate together," stated the new executive director of Apordom, Alejandro Campos.
The Dominican Port Authority, an autonomous body with its own assets, independence, and unlimited duration, subject to the provisions of Law No. 70 and the regulations issued by the Executive Branch, was founded on December 17, 1970, becoming the regulatory body of the Dominican port system; its task is to direct and administer maritime ports and increase the international trade of the Dominican Republic.
During Jean Luis Rodríguez's tenure, the entity experienced a process of expansion and modernization of its port infrastructure with the increase from three to five cruise terminals, the construction of 18 tourist and fishing docks, and the mobilization of over USD 531 million in public and private investments. Likewise, the country went from receiving 1.1 million cruise passengers in 2019 to nearly 2.8 million in 2025.
With the arrival of Campos to the Executive Directorate and Muñiz to the Board of Directors, the institution is expected to continue these advancements and deepen the modernization process of the national port system, strengthening its role as a key element of the master plan to convert the Dominican Republic into a Logistics and Cruise Hub of the Caribbean, as well as the execution of strategic projects that contribute to the economic, tourist, and logistical development of the country.
