(5:30 p.m. EDT) -- Viking has taken delivery of its 15th ocean ship, Viking Mira, at Fincantieri's shipyard in Ancona, Italy. he cruise line's 15th ocean ship.
The new ship follows the cruise line's small ship template, with capacity for 998 passengers in 499 staterooms.
"We are delighted to welcome the Viking Mira to our elegant fleet of small sister ships," said Leah Talactac, President and CEO of Viking. "Our guests are curious travelers, and the arrival of a new ship allows us to offer them even more opportunities to explore the world in Viking comfort. We look forward to welcoming guests on board the Viking Mira during her inaugural season and for many years ahead."
Viking Mira will embark on its maiden voyage on June 5; a seven-day journey from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Barcelona with calls in the Italian port of Livorno, as well as Cannes, Marseille and Sete in France. The ship will spend its inaugural season sailing Mediterranean and Northern Europe itineraries.
Following the delivery of Viking Mira, the cruise line is gearing up for the arrival of Viking Libra, set to be the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions. Also under construction in Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard, Viking Libra is scheduled for delivery in November 2026. In 2027, Viking will welcome its second hydrogen-powered vessel, Viking Astrea.
