The National Port System remained dynamic during April. In that month, the country's maritime and river ports registered 1763 ship arrivals and 1750 departures, figures representing increases of 8% and 5.5%, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year, reported the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN).
The result confirms the positive trend observed during the first months of the year and reflects the growth of port activity, a key component for foreign trade, territorial integration, and economic development. Of the total arrivals registered in April, 33.3% corresponded to maritime terminals and 66.7% to river ports.
"The sustained growth in port movement reflects increased economic and commercial activity in the country. Our ports play a strategic role in boosting exports, internal supply, regional connectivity, and job creation," highlighted the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera.
In the maritime sector, 17 ports, led by Callao, handled 587 arrivals and 569 departures, which meant a growth of 8.7% and 3.1%, respectively, compared to April of the previous year. The largest participation corresponded to container ships (178), followed by bulk carriers (170), tankers (140), general cargo vessels (35), fishing vessels (21), ro-ro or rolling cargo vessels (15), passenger vessels (6), and other types (22).
Meanwhile, five river ports, led by Iquitos, registered 1176 arrivals and 1181 departures, with increases of 7.6% and 6.8% each, compared to April of the previous year. In this sector, the movement of vessels classified as passenger (406), passenger and cargo (92), pushers (55), general cargo (45), gliders (23), as well as other types (555) predominated.
