The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) received a report of an attack 40 nautical miles southeast of the Port of Umm Qasr, Iraq. According to initial information, the explosion of an unknown projectile reportedly affected a vessel linked to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
In line with leaked data from the case, the affected vessel is reportedly the MSC Sariska V, registered under the flag of Panama. The aggression is said to have occurred a few hours after the ship departed from the Iraqi port facility, causing a perforation in the unit's hull.
"UKMTO has received a report of an incident 40 nautical miles southeast of Umm Qasr, Iraq. A cargo vessel was transiting the Arabian Gulf when a large explosion occurred after an unknown projectile impacted the starboard side," reported the naval security organization of the British Royal Navy.
"At present, UKMTO has no knowledge of any environmental impact. Authorities are investigating. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO," it added.
Subsequently, UKMTO updated the report, stating a "second impact against the cargo vessel, which caused a fire that has now been extinguished. No injuries are reported among the crew."
The MSC Sariska V, 294 meters long and 32 meters wide, has been trapped in the Persian Gulf since February 28, 2026, when the conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran erupted.
According to reports, the MSC container ship was used in shuttle or feeder services between ports in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The damage caused by the first attack is concentrated on the starboard side amidships and above the waterline. This incident adds to similar cases linked to the HMM Namu and CMA CGM San Antonio.
