The Panama Canal closed today, Thursday, the period for submitting documents by companies interested in participating in the pre-qualification process for the development of the Corozal and Telfers container transshipment port terminals, completing a new stage in the procedure for selecting future concessionaires.
The documentation will be evaluated according to the technical, financial, and legal criteria established in the Pre-qualification Document and its respective amendments. Once this evaluation is completed, the Panama Canal will publish the list of pre-qualified companies, with which it will advance to the next phase of the process, focused on interaction and dialogue with the pre-qualified parties.
The initiative includes the development of two container transshipment terminals, one in the Atlantic and one in the Pacific, with an estimated investment of B/.2,600 million and an approximate construction period of three years. The project is expected to increase the national container transshipment capacity by an additional 5 to 6 million TEUs per year, strengthening the competitiveness of the Panamanian port system around the Panama Canal.
The pre-qualification process began on January 30, 2026, with the publication of the Pre-qualification Document and progressed with a consultation period, the issuance of three amendments, and closes today with the submission of documents, as part of the mechanisms provided in the Concessions Regulations of the Panama Canal Authority. These stages aim to guarantee the transparency and competitiveness of the process while promoting the informed participation of interested companies.
