Føn Energy Services Poland signed a multi-year contract with Baltic Power for the provision of integrated operation and maintenance (O&M) services at Poland's offshore wind farm.
The offshore wind market in the Baltic Sea shows strong dynamism, with double-digit growth projected for the coming years. In Poland alone, O&M expenditure is projected to grow at an average annual rate of almost 40%.
"We are proud to support Baltic Power, one of Poland's first offshore wind projects. This contract reflects our ability to deliver integrated services for complex energy projects and represents an important step in consolidating our presence in the Polish market. We look forward to working closely with Baltic Power to ensure safe and efficient execution, as well as long-term value creation," said Sindre Rhrich, CEO of Føn Energy Services.
The multi-million dollar contract is a long-term agreement with extension options, covering the provision of an integrated Balance of Plant (BoP) operations and maintenance program for all subsea assets, including foundations and cables, at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm.
The contract also includes an environmental study aimed at monitoring marine growth and fauna habits in the area. The program covers all inspection and corrective maintenance services for Baltic Power's subsea assets, including project management and planning, vessel chartering and management, logistics, engineering, and procurement. Føn Energy Services will be supported by local Polish suppliers for the provision of these services.
For Føn Energy Services, working with local suppliers is a priority. Polish companies are already involved throughout the Baltic Power supply chain, with offshore substation topsides built in Gdansk and Gdynia shipyards, onshore cables supplied from the Bydgoszcz factory, and parts of the foundations coming from Zary and Niemodlin.
The level of local content for Baltic Power is expected to exceed 21% over the project's lifespan, in line with the Polish Sectoral Agreement guidelines, which set a 20-30% limit for Phase I projects, while Phase II projects are expected to reach 40-50%.
"This contract represents an important step in strengthening our presence in the Polish offshore wind market. We are committed to establishing a strong local structure and collaborating with regional partners to ensure efficient operations throughout the asset's life," added Rhrich.
The Føn Energy Service O&M program will enable Baltic Power to optimize and improve the utilization of its subsea assets, reduce risks, and achieve more efficient operation of its wind farms.
The Baltic Power project is a joint venture between Orlen and Northland Power. It is Poland's most advanced offshore wind project and the first to reach the construction phase. In total, 76 turbines with a capacity of 15 MW will be installed, estimated to cover 3% of the national electricity demand.
"The establishment of a supply chain for the operational and maintenance phase of Baltic Power is unprecedented in the Polish energy sector. With the construction of the O&M base in Leba, we are creating extensive logistical and maintenance facilities, as well as new jobs," commented Maciej Stryjecki, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Baltic Power.
"We have signed the first contracts for specialized maintenance and inspection services for subsea infrastructure, geophysical surveys, and the maintenance of offshore and onshore substations. Even at this initial stage of Baltic Power's operations, several Polish companies and research centers will participate in these tasks, which provides valuable momentum for the development of local content in offshore wind energy and an incentive for other companies to grow in this sector," added Stryjecki.
The contract further strengthens Føn Energy Services' position in the global offshore wind market. In recent years, the company has significantly expanded its portfolio by providing integrated O&M services to Ocean Winds at the Moray West and Moray East offshore wind farms in Scotland, among Europe's largest projects. With the new contract in Poland, Føn Energy Services plans to increase its investments in the region and establish a strong local structure that generates lasting value for the client and the local supply chain.
