Maersk organized a visit to Terminal Puerto Coquimbo (TPC), an event that brought together industry representatives and citrus exporters to learn firsthand about the port operation related to the shipment of refrigerated containers.
During the day, attendees were able to observe firsthand the processes of the shipping company and the terminal, as well as the operation of a vessel that was engaged in loading refrigerated containers, a key link for connection with international markets such as the United States.
The activity included a safety talk, a tour of Site 3 to observe loading operations, and a discussion session to answer questions, share experiences on the logistical challenges of the season, and identify opportunities to promote the development of the container line service.
The day concluded with a presentation by Laura Chiuminatto, TPC's general manager, who outlined the main characteristics of the terminal, its operational capabilities, and the technological advancements implemented to continue strengthening operations and service quality.
Manuel Astudillo, from Maersk's Customer Experience area, along with Marcela Quiroz, in charge of the container depot at TPC, addressed different operational aspects and highlighted the importance of an efficient and coordinated logistics chain to guarantee safe and timely shipments.
Astudillo indicated that "the main objective was to strengthen our role as a Trusted Advisor, getting closer to the real operation of our clients to deeply understand their processes, logistical challenges, and specific needs. The Port of Coquimbo presents relevant strategic advantages for citrus exports, particularly due to its proximity to the productive areas of the "norte chico" (small north), which allows reducing land transport times and preserving fruit quality. Agile operation and low congestion make it an efficient alternative for reefer cargo."
"The use of this port allows us to avoid the transfer of fruit to ports in the central zone such as San Antonio and Valparaíso, generating significant savings in time and logistical costs. In this regard, we are convinced that collaboration with Maersk and the port strengthens the efficiency and continuity of our operations, directly contributing to the competitive development of the region," expressed Cristián Vergara, general manager of Frunor.
