The Qianwan port area in Qingdao received the megaship Cabu Ballard, loaded with 61,956 metric tons of Fenix iron ore, marking the first time it had handled a vessel of this type.
CABU ships are dual-purpose vessels designed for transporting liquid and bulk cargo. Their mixed cargo solution effectively reduces the empty return rate, resulting in economic and environmental benefits.
Due to their unique structure and the nature of hazardous cargo operations, these vessels impose extremely demanding requirements on port facilities, operational procedures, safety management, and personnel qualifications.
Only a few domestic terminals can operate with these vessels.
The Ballard measures 228.4 meters in length and 32.3 meters in beam, with a capacity to transport 64,995 tons of goods, making it one of the largest vessels in the Cabu fleet.
To ensure safe and efficient management of this first operation, the Qianwan branch of Qingdao Port organized several coordination meetings. The team analyzed the structural characteristics of the vessel and developed a tailored discharge plan, enabling a stable and smooth operation within the shipping industry's value chain through professional services.
