San Antonio International Terminal (STI) conducted a confined space rescue drill alongside emergency organizations. The drill took place aboard the vessel Maersk Salina, which was docked at Berth N°2 operated by the concessionaire.
The exercise allowed for testing response and coordination protocols in the event of an emergency within the terminal. The activity was carried out in conjunction with Firefighters, the San Antonio Port Company (EPSA), and the Maritime Authority.
This was part of the annual planning of the port terminal's Immediate Action Rescue Brigade (Brai), aimed at strengthening preparedness and response capabilities for various emergency scenarios.
STI's Security Officer and Brai leader, Christian Lucero, highlighted the importance of this type of training to keep teams prepared and reinforce collaborative work among the different institutions involved in an emergency. "Permanent preparation and training are fundamental to respond safely and promptly to these types of situations," he stated.
During the activity, the rescue of a person inside a ship's deck hold was simulated, which allowed for the deployment of procedures associated with entry and rescue in confined spaces, as well as evaluating coordination among the participating teams.
Approximately 42 people participated in the drill, which lasted about 60 minutes and included different stages, among them the activation and summoning of Brai, communication with emergency organizations, equipment preparation, entry into the confined space, and care and containment of the victim.
