CMA CGM held the christening ceremony for the CMA CGM Notre Dame, officially incorporating it into the French shipping company's fleet. This makes it the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered containership in the world and the largest registered under the French flag.
"The CMA CGM Notre Dame officially joined our fleet during its christening ceremony in Le Havre. The world's largest LNG-powered containership is now ready for the journey ahead. To all who will sail aboard her: fair winds and following seas," communicated the CMA CGM Group.
The new addition is the first in a series of ten 24,212 TEU LNG-powered vessels under the French flag. It features artificial intelligence, digital navigation, and energy efficiency technologies designed to improve operational performance and support the decarbonization of maritime transport, according to the shipping company.
The vessel will join the French Asia Line (FAL) service, which connects Asia and Northern Europe. The unit began its inaugural commercial voyage in Shanghai, China, arriving in France in early July and, with that, in Le Havre, where it was officially christened.
The CMA CGM Notre Dame is 400 meters long, 42 meters wide, and 75 meters deep. It will operate on an approximate 102-day rotation, calling at ports such as Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Tangier Med.
