Houthi Attack in the Red Sea Leaves Three Pakistani Crew Members Dead

Pakistan "strongly" condemned the Houthi attack on a non-combatant commercial vessel in the Red Sea, which resulted in the deaths of three Pakistani crew members. The aggression was described as a violation of international law and a threat to maritime security.

"Such attacks endanger innocent lives, constitute a violation of international law, and pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation," stated Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in a statement.

A total of six people were killed and ten others injured when the Houthis attacked a commercial vessel carrying food supplies in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Islamabad, Dar noted, is in contact with the relevant Saudi authorities, as well as the internationally recognized Government of Yemen, to clarify further details of the incident and the circumstances surrounding it.

The Foreign Minister instructed the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to coordinate "immediately" with the corresponding authorities and to firmly manage all necessary measures for the recovery and repatriation of the remains of the deceased, as well as to provide all possible assistance to the injured citizen.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to remain in close contact with the competent authorities," he added.
