The Port of Nueva Palmira was the scene of the disembarkation and launch operation of the new DRM – 5 Paraguay dredger, which will then be towed along the waterway to Paraguay.
The vessel is part of a USD 20 million aid package, intended for the construction of dredging equipment to improve the navigability of the Paraguay River, within the framework of financial cooperation provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the Republic of Paraguay.
The beneficiary entity of the project is the National Administration of Navigation and Ports (ANNP) of Paraguay.
The dredger is 64 meters long, 12 meters wide, has a 7-foot draft, and a suction capacity of 1,500 m3 per hour.
