The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) actively participated in the Multi-Hazard National Drill for a large-magnitude earthquake followed by a tsunami on the central coast of the country, developed with the objective of strengthening the preparation and response capacity of public entities in the face of emergency situations and natural disasters.
The event saw the participation of the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera, as well as officials, public servants, and emergency brigades from the sector, who put into practice the evacuation, communication, and operational continuity protocols established for this type of risk scenario.
During the exercise, the MTC activated its internal coordination mechanisms and institutional response evaluation, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the lives and safety of workers and citizens, as well as ensuring the continuity of strategic transport and communication services in the event of emergencies.
Furthermore, the drill strengthened coordination between the ministry's different departments and the entities that make up the National Disaster Risk Management System (SINAGERD), contributing to identifying opportunities for improvement in disaster prevention, response, and recovery processes.
As part of the actions aimed at guaranteeing the continuity of the sector's critical functions, the MTC, through the Office of National Defense and Disaster Risk Management, carried out the first test of the Operational Continuity Plan (PCO) 2026.
This exercise allowed for the evaluation of institutional response procedures and the articulation of efforts among the different areas of the sector to ensure a timely, efficient, and organized response to possible emergency scenarios, thereby strengthening the ministry's operational capacity.
With these actions, the MTC reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the culture of disaster prevention and preparedness, promoting an articulated and efficient management that allows for safeguarding the continuity of essential services for the benefit of citizens.
