The United States Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, visited the Port of Chancay today to officially deliver two non-intrusive cargo scanners, donated by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the State Department to the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat).
During the visit, Ambassador Navarro toured the facilities alongside the National Superintendent of Sunat, Javier Franco Castillo, and observed in real-time the customs inspection operations and the functioning of the new equipment. The scanners will strengthen Sunat's capacity to detect illicit goods, streamline trade, and ensure transparency in port operations, according to the embassy.
The cooperation also includes training Peruvian personnel to independently operate these systems and lead customs security and control efforts at the Port, strengthening Peru's institutional capacity in the long term, it noted.
"Today, we reaffirm our commitment to security, transparency, and economic growth," Ambassador Navarro said. "We are proud to support Sunat and its personnel, providing cutting-edge tools and technology to make Peru a regional benchmark in customs operations," he added.
