Specialized personnel from the Prefectura Naval Argentina air-evacuated a 39-year-old Uruguayan crew member who was on board the merchant vessel "RT TANNAT", flying the Liberian flag, after he presented with chest pain, cervicalgia, and headache while sailing approximately 70 nautical miles (about 130 kilometers) off the coast of Punta Indio.
The emergency began when the vessel's captain contacted the national Maritime Authority, reporting the crew member's condition and requesting assistance.
In response, the Force's personnel immediately dispatched a helicopter with medical staff and rescue swimmers on board, which set off to meet the vessel.
Once the aircraft was positioned over the vessel, in a complex maneuver, the rescuers descended to the hatch cover and, using a rescue basket, hoisted the crew member, who was conscious and cooperative.
With the man on board, the helicopter began its return to the Buenos Aires Air Station, where it landed to complete the operation.
Upon arrival, the crew member was assisted by the Force's medical personnel and subsequently transferred, in a high-complexity ambulance, to the Hospital General de Agudos Dr. Juan A. Fernández, where he received medical attention.
