The meeting, held at the Directorate of Maritime, Fluvial and Lacustrine Traffic, was led by its head, General Prefect Néstor Alberto Kiferling, who received General Prefect (RE) Roberto Jorge Camps; the president of the Union of Nautical Entities (UNEN), Captain Alejandro Kalfayan; and its assistant secretary, architect Griselda Apaza.
Also participating were representatives from the Search and Rescue, Fire and Environmental Protection Service; the Maritime Traffic Service; the Buenos Aires Traffic Management Center; and the Directorate of Navigation Safety Police.
During the meeting, experiences were exchanged on situations requiring a coordinated response, with special attention to sunken or semi-sunken recreational vessels remaining in navigation areas, their communication and monitoring, and the applicable procedures for nautical emergencies.
In addition, aspects related to traffic management and coordination among the different services involved in these types of situations were analyzed, particularly in the Río de la Plata sector between Quilmes and the First Section of the Delta Islands.
In this regard, special attention was paid to the Costanero Channel, an area where different nautical uses and activities converge.
As a result of the meeting, it was proposed to form a working group comprising representatives of the Prefectura and the recreational boating community, with the purpose of deepening the analysis of the situations raised and advancing improvements in regulations and procedures related to sunken or semi-sunken recreational vessels, as well as in the attention and coordination of nautical emergencies.
The working group is scheduled to start in October 2026 and will seek to establish a common agenda to advance in the treatment of the identified issues.
The initiative is part of the actions carried out by the Prefectura to strengthen its bond with the nautical community, promoting dialogue and direct exchange with those who carry out their activities in the waters.
