G2 Ocean completed the first pulp loading operation for the Star Norge, a newly built vessel recently delivered, at the Port of Paranaguá, Brazil.
The ship loaded 14,200 tons of pulp before continuing to the Port of Santos and, subsequently, to Asia. This is its first voyage from Brazil after its delivery by the shipyard in January.
"This marks the beginning of our pulp production operations for a new series of vessels designed to transport larger volumes of cargo more efficiently. This helps us meet customer demand while reducing fuel consumption and emissions per ton transported. The vessels are also prepared for the use of alternative fuels as they become available," said Arthur English, CEO of G2 Ocean.
The Star Norge belongs to G2 Ocean's largest class of vessels, the N-class, with a length of 225 meters, a cargo capacity of up to 82,300 tons, and a crane capacity ranging from 75 to 120 tons.
The operation in Paranaguá demonstrates how vessel design and port infrastructure, together, contribute to more efficient logistics, as the Star Norge's cargo capacity allows for transporting larger volumes of cargo per trip; fewer trips contribute to reducing overall transport costs and emissions; better cargo handling contributes to operational efficiency.
Recent infrastructure investments in Paranaguá, including deeper access channels, have allowed larger vessels like the Star Norge to operate in the port. "For G2 Ocean, this creates the conditions to use larger, higher-capacity vessels on key trade routes, particularly in the pulp segment," English added.
Pulp and other forest products constitute G2 Ocean's most important cargo segment, representing almost 47% of the volume in 2025, while South America is the company's second-largest market after Asia.
This makes the Star Norge's first pulp shipment from Paranaguá to Asia particularly relevant, as it demonstrates how the newly added fleet capacity can support one of G2 Ocean's most important cargo flows in one of its most important markets.
"Beyond improvements in sustainability, capacity, and cargo efficiency, this fleet renewal also brings greater reliability to Klabin's operations, ensuring access to more robust assets to support our shipments, especially to international markets, particularly Europe and Asia," said Roberto Bisogni, Director of Operational Planning and Logistics at Klabin, a producer and exporter of packaging paper.
"For customers in Brazil and throughout South America, access to larger vessels translates into more efficient transport solutions and greater capacity on major export routes. This is especially important for the transport of forest cargo, where reliability, scale, and port access are key factors for the smooth functioning of customer supply chains," stated Carla Pontes, Commercial Director of G2 Ocean.
The Star Norge is the first of a series of 10 vessels of this class that will join the G2 Ocean fleet in the next two years. As more ships enter service, the company will continue to expand its capacity while preparing for evolving regulatory and fuel requirements.
"This advancement supports G2 Ocean's focus on maintaining reliable, flexible, safe, and sustainable transport solutions for our customers," concluded English, of G2 Ocean.
