Ecuador and the Dominican Republic signed the technical guidelines to begin negotiations for a Partial Scope Economic Complementation Agreement, with the aim of expanding markets for Ecuadorian products and strengthening trade ties with the Caribbean and Central America. The document was signed by Ecuador's Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Ivanova Cereceda, and the Dominican Republic's Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Daniel Peña, with the participation of Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld as an honored witness.
The agreement seeks to improve access for Ecuadorian products related to agro-industry, manufactured goods, processed foods, seafood, and industrial goods to the Dominican market. Likewise, both countries defined that the first round of negotiations will take place in the Dominican Republic and advanced a complementary agenda related to energy cooperation, investments, and free zones. Within this process, Ecuador promoted investment opportunities linked to the Amistad natural gas field and highlighted the cooperation between Petroecuador and Refidomsa to strengthen regional energy security.
The progress of this commercial process could strengthen logistical and maritime connectivity between South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, promoting new foreign trade flows and opportunities for regional supply chains. Furthermore, the strengthening of trade agreements and joint energy projects would contribute to improving Ecuadorian export competitiveness, promoting strategic investments, and consolidating greater economic and port integration in the region.
