The Port de Barcelona has taken a new step today in the reorganization of cruise activity at the Adossat dock and in the process of reducing the current terminals, which will go from seven to five. The Board of Directors today approved the revision of the concession granted to Creuers del Port de Barcelona for the operation of passenger terminals A and B, which will allow the construction of a new Terminal C and, once it enters service, the demolition of the current terminals A and B. It should be noted that on November 1, the last operation will take place in the current Terminal C and, from then on, the process of emptying and demolishing the building will begin.
The action presented thus specifies one of the steps foreseen in the agreement signed in July 2025 between the Port de Barcelona and the Barcelona City Council to reorganize and make cruise activity in the city more sustainable, which establishes the reduction of the number of terminals from seven to five.
The project presented by Creuers del Port de Barcelona foresees demolishing the current Terminal C and building a new one in the same location, with a constructed area of 11,253 m² and dimensioned to meet current and future requirements of cruise activity. In addition, it will incorporate the highest environmental standards, such as photovoltaic generation and onshore power supply (OPS) systems to connect vessels to the electrical grid, among others.
The proposal includes the relocation of the current access roundabout to the Adossat dock, the urbanization of the roads and intermodal areas corresponding to the future terminal, as well as the construction of the new passenger boarding and disembarking gangway. The terminal will be public, meaning it will be open for general use. The planned investment amounts to 104.5 million euros, of which more than 50 million correspond to the building of the future terminal.
The point approved today by the Board of Directors of the Port de Barcelona implies the extension of the concession of Creuers del Port de Barcelona, which until now ended in 2030 and was extendable, until 2033. With the approved modification, the concession of the new Terminal C will end in 2050 and will be extendable until 2053.
When the new Terminal C comes into service, terminals A and B will be demolished, a preliminary step to the renovation works in this area of the Adossat dock, a section of about 660 meters in length that, after more than 70 years since its construction, requires a comprehensive renovation.
The Port de Barcelona is working on a rehabilitation project that maintains alignment with the rest of the Adossat dock. The tender for the construction project of these works will be launched in the coming months. It is expected that the works can begin at the end of 2029, with an execution period of 24 months and a budget of 42 million euros.
The Board of Directors of the Port de Barcelona, held today, has approved opening the tender for the awarding of civil works and auxiliary services maintenance in infrastructure and buildings of the Port Authority of Barcelona. The successful bidder must carry out preventive maintenance actions, annual basic inspections, auxiliary works, and transfer of materials or furniture that must be executed in infrastructure and buildings, as well as technical office work on issues related to corrective maintenance of these buildings and infrastructure.
The Port will assess the successful bidder's ability to dedicate a sufficient number of personnel and resources (machinery, vehicles, material, etc.) to meet daily needs and specific incidents that may arise. The successful bidder for the maintenance service must have a 24/7 on-call service at the Port, 365 days a year.
The tender, which is called by open procedure, has an indicative annual bidding budget of 2.2 million euros and a budget for the maximum contractual period of 5 years of 11.88 million euros (excluding VAT).
