The Port of Almería hosted its first sunset port race this Saturday, an event promoted by the Autoridad Portuaria de Almería that brought together over 2,000 people, 1,300 of whom participated in the various events scheduled for the 'HLA Carreras del Puerto de Almería' 2026. In the competition, Youness Belyamna was the absolute winner of the 10 km race, with a time of 31 minutes and 19 seconds, and Paula Ramírez, who completed the course in 37 minutes and 57 seconds, was the female champion. Meanwhile, Álvaro Sánchez and Paula Mayero were the winners of the 5 km race, with times of 15 minutes and 53 seconds and 18 minutes and 39 seconds, respectively.
"We are opening the port to the city also through sports and health," said Rosario Soto, president of the Autoridad Portuaria de Almería, adding: "The opening of the port goes beyond the urban integration we are undertaking, and this first edition of the port races, within the framework of our social responsibility, is a great example of this. This sporting event has also become a day of coexistence, as not only athletes but also entire families have come to the port to enjoy this sports festival, centered around the recently renovated shed, and to rediscover the Port of Almería."
Javier Belver, representing the Nexal 2020 group organization, highlighted that "this is the first edition of a project born with the aim of growing year after year, with the goal of bringing together the competitive running community and the recreational, social, and healthy community. Therefore, this event includes 1,000 euros in cash prizes and valuable experiences for all participants and their families. And we couldn't have started better: we sold out all bibs, with 1,150 runners between the 5K and 10K."
The 'Carreras del Puerto de Almería' event, certified as a cardio-protected race by the Centro de Emergencias Sanitarias 061 de Almería, began at 5:30 PM with the children's race, whose proceeds benefited Cruz Roja; nearly 200 children participated in the Chupetín (80 m), Benjamín (200 m), Alevín (400 m), and Infantil (800 m) categories. At 7:00 PM, the 10 km races in their various categories (general, hand bike and wheelchair, inclusive category, and Nordic walking) and the 5 km race began. The course started and finished at the Port of Almería shed, with the 10 km race crowning the Faro de Poniente.
After the competition, the shed hosted the trophy ceremony, prize draw, and a runner's party with an after-run for athletes and companions.
In addition to the 1,000 euros distributed among the winners of the general category of the 10 km race, and thanks to HLA Hospital's commitment to health and sports, the winners of the main categories received hyperbaric chamber sessions at HLA Mediterráneo, and registered participants entered a draw for stress tests and echocardiograms.
Alongside the Autoridad Portuaria de Almería, promoter of the Carreras del Puerto de Almería, HLA Mediterráneo Hospital as main sponsor, and Fundación La Caixa as gold sponsor, the official sponsors of the event were: UNED Almería, Estrella de Levante, Ego Sport Center, GMW Almerialva, Grupo Mohama, Medgaz, Gruta Almería SL, Fuze Tea, Biocampojoyma, and Masmusculo.
