Port of Santander Reactivates Raos 8 Dock After Refurbishment Works

The Raos 8 dock at the Port of Santander (Spain) is back in operation. This follows the completion of the second phase of refurbishment works.

Details of this milestone were provided on the Cantabrian maritime station's website, where it was reported that "the area, which has been intervened in two consecutive phases to reduce impacts, is limited by the caisson dock in its northern zone and by a diaphragm wall at its eastern end, occupying a strip of the Raos 8 dock esplanade 150 meters long by 54 meters wide."

"Nevertheless, work continues on reinforcing and sealing the existing containment at the eastern end of the dock to ensure confinement and stability of the ground, without affecting the use of the dock," the publication added.

In this regard, César Díaz, president of the Port Authority of Santander, stated that "we have restored the initial condition of an infrastructure that was already twenty years old and and showed significant unevenness as a result of continuous use."

"Our duty is to invest in both safety and efficiency and economic development. In this sense, the maintenance of public docks is essential to achieve optimal operational capacity of the dock and guarantee operators an effective provision of services," Díaz added.

The works continue to be executed by the company Aceinsa Cantábrico S.A, with an investment of 2.7 million euros, funded by the APS.
