The president of PortCastelló, Rubén Ibáñez, highlighted that the first anniversary of the renovation of the Fuente del Moruno and the surrounding Plaza del Mar "showcases the transformation of the maritime facade" by the current Port Authority of Castellón.
Ibáñez stated that the action "reflects PortCastelló's commitment to improving the safety and accessibility of this building, which has consolidated itself as a cultural hub hosting activities and events throughout the year."
The head of the Port Authority emphasized that "to achieve the objective of opening the port to the public and making it a family meeting point, we had to build an open and dynamic space that not only improved the image of the building and its surroundings but also its cultural offerings." "Today, the Moruno is fully booked all year round, and this is also the result of collaboration with the City Council and joint work to promote port-city integration and make Castellón a city that looks out to sea," Ibáñez asserted.
In addition to these projects, the president of the Port of Castellón assured that "the Fuente del Moruno is one of the major projects that visualize a transformation and beautification of the coastline that began with the illumination of the Fuente del Centenario and will continue to advance steadily with ongoing actions such as the new Port Authority building that will recover the Museu de la Marina, the creation of a new green area in the surroundings that will provide access to the sea, the future technological hub, or the remodeling of the Lonja de Pescadores, one of the great demands."
The renovation works of the Fuente del Moruno and the accessibility improvements mainly consisted of the demolition of the wooden bridge that crossed the fountain to improve pedestrian access to the building and increase safety. In its place, two T-shaped walkways were built, replacing the old wooden bridge, facilitating transit, and ensuring a more comfortable and safe route for visitors and citizens.
Likewise, the restoration included the renovation of the building's roof, the complete renewal of the hydraulic pumping system, and the installation of integrated LED lighting in the basin, providing additional aesthetic and modern value during nighttime hours.
Similar to the Fuente del Centenario, which presides over the roundabout access to the administrative area of PortCastelló and, after several years of disuse, has recently been put into operation, the Fuente Moruno has operating hours for its hydraulic system and colored lighting to offer a safe and attractive space both day and night.
Since the resumption of activity at the Espai Cultural Moruno last October, this space has become a cultural hub that has hosted over fifty exhibitions, events, and even music recitals.
Institutional acts, visits, painting exhibitions, music recitals, book presentations, free children's cinema for the little ones, or exhibitions of great cultural and patrimonial value such as the "Museu del Bou" by Satine, which took place in June, are some of the free events for all audiences that have made this space a chosen venue for many entities and associations to disseminate and exhibit their work.
In this revitalization and renovation plan for the maritime facade, other interventions have been carried out, such as improving accessibility in the children's area of the Muelle de Costa or creating parking spaces for people with reduced mobility.
