Carnival UK outlined a ship shuffle that will send Cunard's Queen Anne to P&O Cruises, replacing Arcadia, and Holland America Line will add that Vista-class vessel following its Evolution transformation.
It all happens in 2029.
Queen Anne, introduced just two years ago, will complete its 2028/29 world voyage then undergo what Carnival UK described as an "extensive reimagining" and be renamed before entering P&O service in May 2029.
"These decisions reflect a careful, long-term view of our portfolio and where the individual strengths of each ship can best support guest demand and the future direction of our two cruise lines," said Paul Ludlow, president of Carnival UK, P&O Cruises and Cunard.
The 3,000-passenger Queen Anne was "created as a bold and contemporary expression of Cunard, combining the brand's hallmark service and sense of occasion with modern design, an extensive choice of dining and entertainment, and highly flexible public spaces," he continued. "Those qualities give her a natural affinity with the modern P&O Cruises holiday experience."
This will introduce a new class of ship to P&O Cruises and broaden the choice for passengers through a different scale, onboard experience and range of itineraries, Ludlow said.
He added Queen Anne will still play a role in the "Four Queens" celebration in Liverpool in May 2028.
According to Ludlow, the change will give Cunard a "more closely unified fleet centred on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.
"... This decision does not change our commitment to Cunard or its future," he said. "We will continue to invest in the ships, service, itineraries and guest experiences that make Cunard unique, while building on the strong following enjoyed by each of its three Queens."
Next year Queen Mary 2 will complete a major upgrade. As the world's only ocean liner providing regular trans-Atlantic service, "It's a one-of-a-kind asset," Ludlow said, "and our investment is designed to ensure it continues to delight guests for decades to come."
Arcadia, which entered service for P&O in 2025, has "created countless special memories for our guests. We are immensely proud of her place in the line's history and pleased that, following a celebratory farewell season, she will continue her career within the Carnival Corporation family," Ludlow said.
At Holland America, Arcadia will join Vista-class sisters Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam, and bring the fleet to 12 ships, adding more than 2,000 berths and providing flexibility to further develop the line's global deployment.
President Beth Bodensteiner said HAL continues to see strong demand and called Arcadia a "natural fit."
The addition of Arcadia builds on the Holland America Evolution, a multiyear investment that's adding new venues, restaurants and staterooms along with the best features of Pinnacle-class ships to more of the fleet while preserving the mid-sized vessel experience that HAL said guests love.
New features revealed for Oosterdam and Zuiderdam include the Grand Dutch Café, a renovated Ocean Bar, expansive bridgeview suites and purpose-built solo verandah cabins.
Oosterdam will debut its evolution in fall 2027, with Zuiderdam following in April 2028. Venues and features to be added to Arcadia will be determined in the next several months.
