The No. 1 Union of DP World San Antonio Workers accused the operator of non-compliance with commitments within the framework of the ongoing collective bargaining.
Through a statement, the union organization pointed out that "we cannot accept that key commitments reached in collective bargaining are diluted by unilateral administrative interpretations. The priority in shift assignments and the agreements signed in our collective instrument are not negotiable intentions, but binding obligations that sustain trust between the parties. Disregarding the letter and spirit of what was agreed upon violates good faith and generates avoidable instability."
"This situation deepens when we see that senior management bases its decisions on advice composed of workers from the terminal itself who, in practice, operate far from the reality on the ground and the true dynamics of the port. When decision-making is filtered through rigid visions, where there is also a permanent barrier to understanding the idiosyncrasy of the Chilean port worker in their own language and context, effective dialogue breaks down and the terminal's operation is severely strained," the letter added.
Furthermore, the aforementioned union remarked that "we view with deep concern a direct connection between this serious failure of real communication and a good part of the operational, labor climate, and management problems that this port terminal faces daily. When institutional channels do not understand or distort the reality of job placements, not only are contracts violated; the entire operation of the terminal is hindered and the minimum trust required to sustain a port of this magnitude is deteriorated."
At the same time, the organization took the opportunity to make an announcement, stating that "we make a categorical and direct call to the directives of DP World SAI and DP World Chile to intervene, safeguard the unrestricted fulfillment of the agreed conditions, and demand that local management resume dialogue in the same language of respect that workers and the signed agreements deserve."
Finally, the port workers added that "we reaffirm our willingness to first exhaust all formal avenues of dialogue to unblock this situation. However, if the administration persists in its stance, the union will resort to all administrative, judicial, and oversight tools available in national labor legislation, as well as the instances guaranteed by international labor law treaties and conventions," the statement concluded.
On the other hand, the Port Union Confederation of Chile supported the aforementioned union and, through a public statement, assured that "collective bargaining and respect for the pledged word are fundamental pillars of labor dignity in the ports of our country. The priority in shift assignments and each of the rights won at the negotiating table are not negotiable and cannot be left to the discretion of unilateral interpretations by the company. Port management is not done from a desk; it requires knowing the terrain, listening to the workers, and respecting the effort of those who move operations day by day."
"We join the call to the senior management of DP World SAI and DP World Chile to act with the responsibility demanded by a terminal of this magnitude, resume transparent dialogue, and fully comply with the agreed commitments," the statement concluded.
Regarding this situation, PortalPortuario raised the query with DP World San Antonio; however, as of the close of this edition, they have not commented on the matter.
