Azerbaijan confirmed that two of its nationals died and two others were injured after a drone attack on the Tedy tugboat in the Black Sea, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The injured victims were hospitalized in the Ukrainian city of Chornomorsk, while the foreign ministry coordinates actions with the relevant diplomatic missions.
"Following the medical examination and treatment of our injured citizens, measures are being taken to repatriate them and provide them with necessary consular support, as well as to carry out funeral arrangements," the note added.
The ministry reiterated its call to Azerbaijani citizens to refrain from visiting or engaging in work activities in regions "where military operations are underway or the security situation is unstable."
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, Eastern European media outlets maintain that the aggression was perpetrated by Russia.
The deceased victims were identified as Azerbaijani citizens Aslan Aliyev and Asim Gasymov.
In line with reports from the Eastern European press, after the first impact, the damaged tugboat headed towards the Romanian port of Constanta, but was attacked two more times during the night of Wednesday, September 9.
This aligns with the report from the Russian Ministry of Defense about offensives against a tugboat escorting vessels bound for the Port of Odesa.
The Russian ministry did not name the vessel, but the time, location, and type of attack would coincide with the report on the Tedy.
"Russia will continue to attack commercial vessels in the Black Sea that are used to transport weapons and resources for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recently stated.
