Iran condemned US attacks on three of its oil tankers, calling them "illegal and aggressive," accusing Washington of carrying out these aggressions as part of a naval blockade and economic war against it.
"These illegal and aggressive actions, carried out in continuation of the US military aggression against Iran and as part of its naval blockade and economic war against our homeland, constitute a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, a war crime, and an obvious threat to international peace and the security of commercial navigation," communicated the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry emphasized Iran's determination to "firmly defend its sovereignty and national interests" against what it described as "state terrorism and aggressive actions" by the United States. It added that such actions included "the continuous naval blockade and economic war, as well as attacks against commercial vessels."
The Iranian foreign ministry stated that the responsibility for the consequences arising from the continuous "aggressive and interventionist actions" of the United States in the region will fall on Washington and its "accomplices and partners."
Previously, the United States Central Command (Centcom) reported that its forces attacked and disabled three Iranian oil tankers after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles against two US Navy warships in regional waters.
Regional tensions have escalated since US-Israeli attacks against Iran began on February 28, to which Tehran has responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel and US interests across the region.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding in June regarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, but its implementation has stalled due to disagreements over security arrangements in the said strait.
