The Port of Barcelona's Board of Directors, meeting today, approved the award of the public multipurpose maritime terminal at the Príncep d'Espanya dock to Boluda Maritime Terminals, S.A. (Boluda Corporación Marítima). In February, the Port of Barcelona launched a public tender for the operation of this terminal, as the concession period for Sammer, S.L. was set to expire in 2026. Three proposals were submitted: Sammer, Boluda, and Andino.
Boluda Maritime Terminals, S.A.'s proposal achieved the highest overall score. Boluda expects to handle a minimum of 1,300,000 tons of maritime traffic annually from 2028 to 2032.
The new terminal will ensure the continuity of non-containerized general cargo activity, a crucial traffic for the Port's strategic positioning. However, it does not exclude the possibility of handling containers, considering that there is traffic on mixed vessels, general roll-on/roll-off cargo, and vertically handled containers, which could not be operated in existing container or roll-on/roll-off terminals. The objective is to guarantee a competitive service, open to third parties, and aligned with the logistical and industrial needs of the region.
The new terminal will have an area of 87,425 m² and 531 meters of quay line, and the concession is for a period of 16 years. Once awarded, the corresponding administrative process will now begin.
