The Port Authority of Almería (APA), in parallel with improving services and port infrastructure to increase traffic, continues its efforts to open up and beautify the Port of Almería. In this vein, after removing 300 meters of fencing on the east and west sides, the APA is proceeding with the renovation of the perimeter fence that cannot be removed, installing ornamental ironwork that combines security with an aesthetic improvement of the port alongside the Vía Parque. "We have made a budgetary effort because I understood that a port, like ours, international and state-owned, should have a quality fence. In this case, we have opted for a classic, ornamental wrought iron fence, which will cost around one million euros in total investment; it should be remembered that the Port Authority of Almería carries out the works with its own funds, derived from the profit of port activity," said APA President Rosario Soto.
As part of the project to expand the third lane and improve the Ribera service road, in which the APA has invested €731,853.29 and which was executed by the UTE Sumas – Glesa, the Port of Almería has already replaced 300 meters of the old fence with an ornamental wrought iron one, 1.8 meters high and powder-coated in black to improve its preservation. The work is complemented by cladding the base wall with travertine, similar to that used in the Varadero and present in Nicolás Salmerón Park, maintaining the commitment to common elements between port and city to ensure harmony in architectural aesthetics.
The renovation of the fence will continue in a second phase of action from Ribera II to the shed, in which approximately another 900 meters of fencing will be replaced. This work is included in the project to reorganize the passenger waiting area of Ribera II, which will also mean a substantial change at the port entrance towards the maritime station, and which the APA plans to tender in this last quarter of the year with a budget of around €2.5 million.
The Port Authority of Almería has completed the expansion of the third lane connecting Ribera with the roundabout at the entrance to the Port of Almería via Pescadería, which has been operational since the beginning of Operation Paso del Estrecho, leading to improved traffic flow during these months when the number of users skyrockets.
The works, which included the renovation of the fencing, consisted of the demolition of the existing sidewalk, the provision of an additional lane, and new perimeter sidewalks that contribute to greater fluidity in traffic accessing and exiting the port.
