Representatives of the National Federation of Maritime and Port Workers of Peru (FEMAPOR) arrived at the offices of the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) to express their labor problems. There, they were received by the Deputy Minister of the portfolio, Tomás Flores. Details of this meeting were provided on the official page of the Government of Peru, where it was reported that "during the meeting, the Deputy Minister expressed that the MTPE seeks to promote social dialogue among the State, workers, and actors linked to the port system, with the aim of promoting a consensual agenda that contributes to strengthening the protection of labor rights and the modernization of the sector's regulatory framework." After the meeting, the Deputy Minister stated that "through the General Directorate of Labor, coordination will be made for the formation of the working group and an agenda will be drawn up to identify and prioritize the main problems faced by port workers throughout the country." "It is necessary to work quickly on the preparation of a transition agenda that identifies the main problems affecting port workers, not only in Lima and Callao, but also in the other ports of the country. It is urgent and a priority to incorporate this issue into the national agenda. Our role will be to guide this work agenda," added the ministerial authority. For his part, the Secretary General of FEMAPOR, Milton Mendiguri Padilla, expressed that "we have been heard and we leave reassured by the commitment made by the authorities. Now we await the issuance of the ministerial resolution that formalizes the formation of the working group." Finally, the union leader indicated that the central objective of the workers is to establish a tripartite table to propose and discuss modifications to the Port Labor Law.
