The Port of Castellón leads the Spanish port system in general cargo growth so far this year, registering a significant increase of 48%, a figure that contrasts with the average decline of 0.6% experienced by the state system as a whole. This is according to the latest official statistics published by Puertos del Estado, which confirm a positive and sustained evolution in all types of traffic operated in the Port of Castellón.
The data consolidates PortCastelló in the fourth national position in terms of total cargo traffic growth, with an 11.2% increase until August, compared to the 1.2% achieved by the average of Spanish ports. With this pace of activity, the Port of Castellón has already exceeded 13.5 million tons moved in its facilities.
Particularly relevant is the momentum achieved in containerized general cargo, a segment in which PortCastelló registers a rebound of 47.2%, in contrast to the 1.5% drop in the rest of the port system. As a direct consequence, container movement in the port increased by 38.5%, compared to the 0.7% decrease recorded nationwide.
The statistical balance from Puertos del Estado also reflects significant advances in other bulk types. In the area of solid bulk, closely linked to the industrial sector of the province, PortCastelló experienced a growth of 12%, placing it well above the testimonial increase of 0.5% nationwide. For its part, liquid bulk traffic registered an increase of 5.3%, also exceeding the 4% recorded in the system average.
The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rubén Ibáñez, stated that "these data confirm that the strategy of traffic diversification and the commitment to the versatility of our terminals are bearing fruit. Growing in all cargo segments and doing so well above the average of the Spanish port system demonstrates the competitiveness, efficiency, and traction of PortCastelló as a key economic engine serving the productive fabric of our province and the entire Valencian Community."
