The president of the Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao, José Antonio Álvarez Vidal, and the director of the port authority, José Ignacio Villar, are participating in the annual work and coordination meeting of the top officials of the general interest port system, organized by Puertos del Estado.
The meeting, which is being held today and tomorrow in Avilés, addresses issues aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the state-owned port system. The meeting was inaugurated by the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, accompanied by the president of Puertos del Estado, Gustavo Santana, and the president of the Port Authority of Avilés, Santiago Rodríguez.
During the meeting, a commitment to decarbonization and digitalization was highlighted, backed by significant investment aimed at optimizing and modernizing the infrastructure of the country's port network. It should be noted that the planned investment for 2027 is more than 1,500 million euros for the entire port system, amounting to more than 7,000 million until 2030.
At the meeting of presidents and directors of Puertos del Estado and the port system, among other topics, progress on key issues such as the review of the Emissions Directive being carried out by the European Union, and the contributions of the EU-ETS Observatory launched by the organization, which warn of the undesirable effects on port competitiveness; port protection plans; and the international projection of Spanish ports, especially the creation of an Ibero-American Port Forum, were discussed.
