Federal and state authorities of Mexico, legislators, representatives of the business sector, and the port community celebrated the completion of the first phase of the Port of Progreso Expansion and Modernization Project. The culmination of this stage also marked the beginning of the second phase, which will be developed with private investment from SSA Marine Mexico.
During the event, it was highlighted that the initiative constitutes one of the most relevant strategic projects for the development of Yucatan and the Mexican Southeast, by strengthening the logistical, commercial, and industrial capacity of the region and consolidating the port facility as a key hub for national and international trade.
The conclusion of the first phase represented an advancement in strengthening the state's maritime infrastructure, while the start of the second phase will allow for the continued expansion of the port's operational capabilities, creating favorable conditions for attracting new investments, installing terminals, strengthening production chains, and creating economic development opportunities for the region.
The Director General of the National Port System Administration (Asipona) Progreso, Jorge Tobilla, emphasized that the conclusion of the first phase and the beginning of the second phase of the Expansion Project represent a historic moment for Yucatan, by strengthening the strategic infrastructure of the Port of Progreso.
Toballa noted that this project will increase operational capacity, attract new investments, and consolidate the Port as a key logistics hub for the economic development of the Mexican Southeast; subsequently, SSA Marine Mexico announced the private investment for the second phase, which will allow for the reception of larger vessels.
