Fresh blueberry exports continue to rise, and Peru remains the world's leading producer and exporter of fresh blueberries as of the end of 2025, surpassing Chile and Spain, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
In the first seven months of the year (January-July), sales of this fruit abroad totaled US$620 million, despite the high temperatures generated by the El Niño phenomenon (FEN), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation indicated.
Exports totaled US$620.2 million, representing a 64.8% growth compared to the US$376.4 million recorded in the same period of 2025, according to the ministry.
Likewise, the exported volume amounted to 84,800 tons, 45.1% higher than the 58,500 tons shipped abroad a year earlier.
Blueberries, along with avocados, fresh grapes, fresh mangoes, raw cocoa beans, fresh asparagus, and other products, are some of the main non-traditional agro-export products.
Higher Prices
In summary, according to Midagri, Peruvian blueberry exports registered significant expansion during the first seven months of 2026, supported by both an increase in shipped volumes and a higher average unit value.
"However, a high concentration in the main destination markets, especially the United States, is maintained," Midagri observed.
Destination Markets
Regarding destination markets, according to Midagri, the United States remained the main buyer of Peruvian blueberries with US$347.6 million, showing a 79.5% growth and a 56% share of the total exported value.
It was followed by the Netherlands with US$104.9 million and a 16.9% share, and China with US$36.1 million and 5.8% of the total. Together, these three markets accounted for approximately 78.7% of Peruvian blueberry exports.
In summary, Peruvian blueberry exports registered significant expansion during the first seven months of 2026, supported by both an increase in shipped volumes and a higher average unit value.
The growth was particularly driven by increased sales to the United States and the Netherlands, as well as by the strong dynamism observed in June and July. However, a high concentration in the main destination markets, especially the United States, is maintained.
Blueberry Hectares
The blueberry industry spans 29,127 hectares. La Libertad concentrates 12,888 hectares, Lambayeque 7,519 hectares, and Ica 4,199 hectares.
Together, these three departments account for 84% of the national surface area, and although the north maintains productive dominance, Ica registers the greatest dynamism in new installations.
According to Midagri figures, as of July this year, the La Libertad region increased its blueberry production by 106% due to migration to higher-yielding varieties and favorable climatic conditions, while in Ica, the production of this fruit increased due to larger harvested areas and high market demand.
Shipments in 2025
Blueberry exports exceeded US$2,457 million at the end of last year, with shipments of 373,514 tons, a volume 14.6% higher than that recorded in 2024, with the main markets being the United States, in first place, followed by countries such as the Netherlands, China, and other emerging markets such as Taiwan, India, and Colombia.
