The North Multipurpose Terminal of the Port of Callao, managed by APM Terminals Callao, marked a milestone in the modernization of the country's maritime infrastructure by receiving the Maersk Tokyo. The vessel stands out as the first container ship of its kind, equipped to use methanol as fuel, to dock at this terminal.
The vessel's attention and agency services were handled by Maersk Line Peru, a company associated with the Peruvian Association of Maritime Agents (APAM), ensuring the operational efficiency required for handling state-of-the-art vessels in the country.
The vessel has a capacity exceeding 8,000 TEUs and is equipped with dual fuel technology, a system that allows it to alternate between conventional fuels and ecological options such as methanol. This innovation seeks to reduce the carbon footprint and marks a decisive transition for the shipping sector towards standards of greater efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The National Port Authority (APN), an agency attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), highlighted that the arrival of the Maersk Tokyo reflects Peru's potential to integrate clean technologies and consolidate itself as a modern and competitive logistics hub in the region.
