Marco Hernández, General Manager of DP World Callao and the first Peruvian to hold this position (since 2024), shared in a recent interview the main milestones, challenges, and the company's future vision to consolidate the Port of Callao as a world-class logistics hub.

Anticipation and integral vision of the logistics chain

Hernández emphasizes that the organization's priority is to anticipate the needs of Peruvian foreign trade through solid infrastructure planning, disciplined capital allocation, and the development of comprehensive services throughout the entire logistics chain.

"Infrastructure makes sense when it improves conditions for companies to reach their markets. That is the link we must maintain between the terminal's results and our contribution to Peru's competitiveness." — Marco Hernández, General Manager.

Key milestones and projections

Historic milestone in infrastructure and volume: With the construction and commissioning of the Bicentennial Pier, the capacity of the South Pier increased by more than 80%, which allowed surpassing 2 million TEUs moved in a single year (2025), becoming the first terminal in Peru and on the South Pacific coast to reach this figure.

Long-term investment commitment: In its 20 years of operation in Callao, DP World has invested nearly USD 1 billion (including more than USD 330 million in voluntary additions). In addition, the company has submitted a proposal for an addendum to the Peruvian State to extend the concession for up to 30 additional years, accompanied by a projected investment plan exceeding USD 1.3 billion to double the capacity for connection with international markets.

Sustainable development and decarbonization: Since 2022, the company has managed to reduce emissions per container moved by 50%, with the goal of achieving a 90% reduction by 2030 (scopes 1 and 2). Among the initiatives, the implementation of the Shore Power system stands out, which allows vessels to connect to the terminal's electrical grid to use clean energy during their stay.

Technological innovation and human talent: The strategic approach combines the incorporation of automation, digitalization, and data analysis to improve service traceability and predictability, always supported by constant training of work teams.

Conclusion:

DP World reiterates its commitment to work hand in hand with the public sector, exporters, and importers to reduce friction in the supply chain, articulate better land connections, and ensure that the country's productive activity continues to grow sustainably over the coming decades.
