ProInversión reported that it has initiated the preparation of the potential cargo demand study for the San Román Dry Port project in Juliaca (Puno), through a specialized consultancy.
The study will identify the goods that could use the dry port, their places of origin and destination, the main productive chains, and the corridors through which they are transported. It will also evaluate opportunities to capture national and international cargo, including that linked to trade with Brazil and Bolivia, and project different demand scenarios.
With the results, ProInversión will have a model of current logistics flows and a potential demand profile. These documents will serve as the basis for defining the project's characteristics and advancing its subsequent structuring and promotion stages.
The San Román Dry Port is projected as a multimodal logistics platform on a 52-hectare plot in Juliaca.
Its purpose is to bring foreign trade and goods distribution services closer to producers and workers in the south, and to improve connection with Pacific maritime ports and trade corridors to Brazil and Bolivia.
As Gestión had previously reported in May, ProInversión expects to award this project between the last quarter of this year or the first quarter of 2027. At that time, there was no preliminary investment figure, but now there is: it is estimated to be between US$150 million and US$250 million.
If materialized, it could bring together storage, cargo consolidation, inspection, customs control, and distribution services. The expectation is that more efficient logistics will help reduce transport times and costs, open market opportunities for regional producers, and favor investment and employment.
The demand study is being carried out within the framework of the agreement signed in February 2026 by ProInversión, the Provincial Municipality of San Román, and the Regional Government of Puno. The municipality promotes the initiative, the regional government finances the planned activities, and ProInversión leads the formulation and subsequently the structuring and promotion of the project in assets.
