18 Shipping Nations Alert to Global Trade Fragmentation Risks

The Consultative Shipping Group, comprising 18 major shipping nations including the UK, Germany, South Korea, Canada and Singapore, warned that armed conflicts, trade wars and extreme weather are causing structural shifts in global maritime trade. The group highlighted that 80% of international commerce is transported by sea and cautioned that fragmentation undermines the rules-based maritime framework, with hundreds of vessels now operating outside standard insurance and safety frameworks.
