The Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, and the Governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, will celebrate this Wednesday (4) the agreement that provides for the decentralization of the administration and management of the São Francisco River Waterway (HN-500) to Companhia das Docas do Estado da Bahia (Codeba). The proposal establishes the delegation of attributions related to the management of the navigable waterway, the Sobradinho Lock, and the Small Public Port Facilities (IP4) covered by the agreement.
With a foreseen term of 25 years, the measure seeks to establish clearer institutional responsibilities and strengthen the management of the waterway infrastructure. With the delegation, Codeba will be responsible for the administration, operation, maintenance, conservation, restoration, and replacement activities of the structures contemplated in the instrument.
The initiative represents an important step to strengthen the organization and management of the São Francisco Waterway, a strategic corridor for regional integration and the transport of cargo and passengers between municipalities in Bahia, Pernambuco, and Minas Gerais.
The agreement also seeks to contribute to the resumption and development of commercial navigation, with better navigability and safety conditions.
The audience will also address the Commitment Term for the implementation of an aircraft deceleration system (EMAS) at runway end 29 of Jorge Amado Airport, in Ilhéus, to act in situations where aircraft overrun the end of the runway, increasing the airport's operational safety.
