Crane Accident Injures Two Operators During Cargo Lift at Mumbai Port
A major crane accident occurred at Mumbai Port on 30 August involving the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier Vienna during a heavy lift cargo operation. Two crane operators were injured when a sling securing 140 tonnes of cargo became unbalanced and came loose, causing the load to shift and lift the second crane off the ground. The impact triggered a fire that was successfully contained by the Mumbai Port Authority Fire Brigade. The Mumbai Port Authority has launched an investigation to determine whether safety procedures were followed.
