Landing Craft Irini K Sinks Off Sifnos While Under Tow

The landing craft vessel Irini K sank approximately 1 nautical mile off Sifnos in the Aegean Sea while being towed from Kalymnos to Perama, Greece for shipyard work. The vessel began taking on water in the engine room with uncontrollable flooding. Both crew members evacuated safely and were rescued by the tugboat. The Greece-flagged vessel, built in 1966 and measuring 62 meters in length, carried no fuel or lubricants, minimizing pollution risk.
