The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is conducting a regional workshop in Lima, Peru, from October 26 to 30, to strengthen knowledge on maritime traffic organization and ship reporting. The initiative seeks to improve navigation safety and marine environment protection.

The training addresses the criteria and procedures for establishing new maritime traffic systems or reviewing existing ones, in accordance with the SOLAS Convention. Additionally, it guides participants in preparing proposals that will be evaluated by IMO technical bodies before their possible adoption.

Measures include shipping routes, traffic separation schemes, and precautionary areas to reduce collisions and groundings in complex navigation areas. These actions contribute to strengthening the safety of maritime operations and the protection of international trade logistics chains.
