Nigeria: U.S. Lifts Security Restrictions on Ships After 12 Years
The United States has lifted the Conditions of Entry (CoE) imposed on vessels from Nigeria since June 2014. According to Nigerian Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, the measure is a response to improvements in maritime security infrastructure and compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The U.S. Coast Guard conducted four evaluations between March 2024 and April 2026. The lifting of restrictions is expected to reduce operational costs, streamline turnaround times, and increase the attractiveness of Nigerian ports for international shipping companies.
